KEC Charlotta was in the Novice on the Friday, my first novice on her, and she produced a much improved dressage test, our first pole down together ever(!), and a fab clear inside the time cross country. A clear show jumping would have put us 2nd :( but still not bad for our first Novice together, and we'll head to Aldon for our final event of the season.
We went back on the Sunday with the babies; Max contesting his first event, and the two babies out for a bit of fun as I can't afford to run them anymore, so they will go on holiday now :(
Max was super in the dressage and scored 26.4. He's never even seen white boards before but it was just so easy for him! Tiny and Leo's dressage left a lot to be desired but they have done a lot of show jumping recently and find dressage extremely boring at the best of times. I was pretty disappointed with them both, scoring mid-30's but when I look back to the beginning of the season they have improved and achieved so much.
The show jumping was causing absolute carnage and I just hoped Max wasn't too fussed by all the bright colours, as it was only his 3rd ever course of show jumps. He did go very green, but is so honest he always kept jumping and just tapped one down near the end of the course. XC I had absolutely no idea what he was going to do but we had done our homework, schooling lots at Boomerang as well as Lyneham and he popped everything very nicely and cantered home inside the time like he'd been doing it all his life. I love being based at Boomerang as you can prepare them for pretty much anything at minimal extra cost.
It was lovely for him to do so well as Caroline and Michael had come to see him run; having owned him since a 4yo and watched him progress it was a huge relief for me that he pulled it out the bag. He should have won! But we were very pleased with 2nd.
Tiny and Leo who were in disgrace did redeem themselves with fantastic easy double clears inside the time. Tiny finished 4th behind Piggy French (literally, only behind Piggy French- who was 1st, 2nd and 3rd!), and Leo was 6th.
They feel so ready to step up a level and can't wait until next season!
